Simon Tissot Dupont, better known today as S.T. Dupont, used his connections acquired during his work as Napoleon III's court photographer to create his own company specializing in the manufacture of carriages for the Parisian elite. In 1872, the firm was destroyed by fire, but Dupont took advantage of the moment to focus his efforts on building a luxury leather goods business. The company's products are becoming a favorite choice of the upper class in France - from leather briefcases to wallets, bags and other leather goods. After the legacy of S.T. Dupont established itself, in 1919 Simon Dupont retired from the family business to hand over to his sons Andre and Lucien to continue the brand into a new era. They moved the workshops from Paris to the family's native home in Faverges, France, an Alpine commune near Lake Annecy, south of Lake Geneva. This new location, removed from the hustle and bustle of the big city, provides the perfect atmosphere for developing the products that will take the company into its golden age. With each passing year, S.T. Dupont gained more and more popularity, and in 1929 secured a partnership with another iconic French manufacturer - Cartier. The deal opens the door to sell their products in North America and further gain international prestige. However, the stock market crash of 1929 threatened to undermine the brand's newly acquired influence. But an important special order in 1941 forever cemented the place of the S.T. Dupont in history. The Maharaja of Patiala, a princely state in India's Punjab region, commissioned 100 custom evening bags to S.T. Dupont, accompanied by matching solid gold lighters. Until then, the company is not engaged in the manufacture of lighters, but it does not want to miss this profitable order. The team diligently set to work and created one of the first ultra-luxury pocket gasoline lighters. Thus appeared the first lighter from the regular production of S.T. Dupont - the petrol Ligne 1. The elegant offerings from this line are timeless classics that set the standard for all subsequent luxury lighters. After World War II, S.T. Dupont gave up the declining leather goods business and turned its energies to lighters and other accessories. In 1951, the Ligne 1 gas lighter appeared on the scene, marking another turning point in the development of the brand. The company continues to enrich its legacy with legendary designs in each subsequent decade. In the world of cigar lighters and accessories, there is no name as synonymous with luxury as the S.T. DuPont. Today, the company ranks among the most prestigious, with clients ranging from the British royal family to world-famous actors, musicians, artists and various international celebrities.
