Montecristo is one of the most renowned Habanos brands worldwide and is considered to be a benchmark in terms of fl avour internationally. The Montecristo brand was first introduced in 1935 in a report published in the August issue of the Cuban magazine "Habano".
Although it was originally made up of only fi ve vitolas, numbered from 1 to 5, the brand gradually fi lled out an offer that currently covers the tastes of the most demanding smokers, from the majestic Montecristo A, to smaller formats. With their distinguished aroma and Tripa Larga – Long Filler - vitolas, made "Totalmente a Mano" – Totally Handmade - with leaves from Vuelta Abajo* zone, they have captivated both experienced smokers as well as those who are new to the world of Habanos.
The Reserva de Montecristo was presented in 2007; all its leaves (wrapper, binder and fi ller) under three years of aging. This Reserva paid tribute to the classic Montecristo No. 4, the best-selling Habano worldwide. The Línea Montecristo Open, specially designed to be enjoyed outdoors, was launched in 2009 with four new vitolas: Eagle, Master, Regata and Junior.
The Gran Reserva de Montecristo Cosecha 2005 was presented in 2011. This was the fi rst Gran Reserva made by Montecristo and was launched in a format highly regarded among smokers: Montecristo No. 2.
The vitolas Double Edmundo and a new fi gurado - tapered at one end - Montecristo Petit No. 2 were launched in 2013. The brand launched its special vitola 80 aniversario and Montecristo Churchills Añejados in 2015 and in 2006, the brand presented its Limited Edition with the new vitola Montecristo Dantés. Later on, Montecristo Línea 1935 was launched with three new vitolas -Maltés, Dumas and Leyenda- which were incorporated to the regular portfolio of the brand, becoming the most premium proposal.
In 2019 Montecristo Supremos was selected as one of the Limited Editions, available in special cases, with the brand colours and an exclusive design for the occasion.
