Cohiba is the most prestigious brand in the world of tobacco, the elite of the Habanos. The leaves used for Cohiba are the “selection of the selection” of the best tobacco plantations in San Juan y Martínez* and San Luis*, in the Vuelta Abajo* area of Pinar del Río* region, Cuba*.
All the brand’s vitolas are made "Totalmente a mano con tripa larga" - Totally Handmade with Long Filler. In addition, Cohiba is the only brand of Habanos in which two of the three types of leaves used, Seco and Ligero, undergo additional fermentation. This special treatment gives Cohibas an unmistakable aroma and fl avour that cannot be found in any other brand.
Cohiba initially launched Línea Clásica, developed between 1966 and 1989, with its characteristic medium to full strength fl avour. It then introduced the medium strength fl avour Línea 1492 in 1992 to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the island. Then followed Línea Cohiba Maduro 5 with Maduro wrappers specially aged for fi ve years through natural processes, which was launched in 2007.
The first Habano Gran Reserva was presented in 2009, the Gran Reserva Cohiba Siglo VI, which emphasised the unique nature of the Habanos. The brand’s portfolio was expanded in 2010 with the launch of the new Cohiba Behike line, the most exclusive line ever launched by Habanos, S.A. For the first time it incorporated the Medio Tiempo in its blend, a leaf from the upper two leaves of the sun tobacco plant that gives it exceptional character and flavour.
The first figurado - tapered at one end – was introduced to the permanent range in Cohiba’s Línea Clásica with the 2012 presentation of Pirámides Extra, a vitola with unique dimensions that only Cohiba makes.
In 2016, the brand celebrated its 50th Anniversary with spectacular new launches: The 50 Anniversary humidors cabinet, an unrepeatable series of just 50 humidors; the special edition of Cohiba Majestuosos 1966; and the new launch of portfolio Cohiba Medio Siglo.
In 2017, Cohiba Talismán Edición Limitada 2017 was launched, an unprecedented vitola in the Habanos portfolio and, in 2018, the brand presented the 2014 Cosecha Reserva in the Robustos vitola, one of the most appreciated by Habanos smokers. Last year, Cohiba Novedosos was presented for La Casa del Habano and Habanos Specialists, in a case specially designed for the brand.
In addition, each cigar contained an additional ring indicating its exclusive production for these establishments.
