Description
This gin is produced in England, but is owned by the Spanish company Gonzalez Byass, best known for its winery (where Tio Pepe sherry is produced). That's curious enough in itself, but the blue color of the London No. 1 is also of particular importance. This is not a blue tinted bottle, but a true blue gin.
The blue is a nod to one of the most unique botanicals, namely iris flowers, used in addition to the more standard juniper, coriander, angelica, lemon peel, orange peel, cassis and cinnamon. The composition of the mixture also includes licorice root, almond, savory and bergamot. That sounds like too many ingredients, but London No. 1 is surprisingly well constructed. On the nose, you'll find a solid base of juniper, as well as hints of orange and even grapefruit.
