Description

Dog Point is one of the oldest privately owned vineyards in Marlborough, with first plantings in the late 1970s. Ivan and Margaret Sutherland were among the first in the Marlborough wine industry to plant grapes in Marlborough. Working at Cloudy Bay Vineyards, Ivan met James Healy, where the pair played an integral part in the evolution of the Cloudy Bay brand. Finding they shared the same aspirations, Ivan and Margaret and James and Wendy moved towards a more natural approach, launching the Dog Point label in 2004, using fruit from the 2002 harvest.

The winery’s vineyard is centrally located at the confluence of the smaller Brancott and Omaka valleys. This location is considered a highly desirable grape growing area in the southern Marlborough valleys. The property is predominantly planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
