Flor de Caña has a rich history, with the brand’s origins tracing back to 1890, when Alfredo Francisco Pelas Cañesa, a young man from Genoa, Italy, decided to travel to Nicaragua and build a distillery in Chichigalpa at the foot of the active San Cristóbal volcano. This unique environment gives different characteristics to the sugar cane, contributing to the flavor profile of the rum. The tropical climate, with a balance between rainfall and sunshine, provides optimal conditions for growing sugar cane. The volcanic minerals in the fertile soil, combined with the slow aging process, play a crucial role in creating the soft and nuanced flavor that distinguishes Flor de Caña. It is the only rum brand in the world that is authorized to carry the “Slow Aged” designation, which describes the natural, unaccelerated aging process. Premium 135-liter bourbon barrels are used, sealed with dried local plantain leaves. This is a rum that does not contain sugar, caramel, gluten, artificial ingredients and enhancers. First in the transition to the ultra-premium category, it is distilled using a continuous multi-column method, according to Spanish tradition, up to 5 times, with 100% renewable energy. All stages of the production process have been controlled by the same family since 1890. This is called "5-star authenticity".
